Platform Capabilities & Technical Specifications

Disk-Cached Outputs

Processed outputs are saved to server disk cache and served with HTTP Cache-Control: public, max-age=31536000, immutable headers for cached repeat loads (Source: img.php, cron_cleanup.php 30-day retention).

URL-Driven Transformations

Append path parameters like /w300/grayscale/blur2 to original URLs to perform cropping, filtering, and formatting dynamically via Imagick (Source: img.php, .htaccess).

Validated Uploads & Fetches

Uploads are checked by magic-byte file signature and 10 MB / 40 MP / 12,000 px limits. Remote fetches allow only HTTP/HTTPS on ports 80/443 with public IP pinning (Source: security.php).

The Instaimgr Photo-Editing API

On-Demand Image Transformation Pipeline

Instaimgr provides programmatic, URL-based image transformation for web applications, e-commerce thumbnails, and content pipelines. Every image request dynamically processes source assets through configured image operations, writes the processed result to disk cache, and serves it with caching headers (Source: img.php).

Supported Core Operations: Exact and proportional resizing (/resizeWxH, /wW, /hH), rectangular cropping (/cropWxH+X+Y), corner rounding (/roundR), circular masking (/circle), angle rotation (/rotateDeg), flipping, Gaussian blur (/blurRadius), sepia tone, monochrome grayscale, brightness, contrast, and text/logo watermarking (Source: img.php).

Privacy & Safety: All processed image outputs have EXIF and metadata profiles automatically stripped via Imagick::stripImage(). The processing engine enforces strict resource limits: 10 MB maximum file size, 40 Megapixels maximum area, 12,000 px maximum single dimension, and strict raster format validation (JPG, PNG, GIF, WEBP). Vector formats (SVG) are excluded (Source: security.php — INSTAIMGR_MAX_BYTES, INSTAIMGR_MAX_PIXELS, INSTAIMGR_MAX_DIMENSION).

Frequently Asked Questions

How do URL transformations work?

You chain operations as slash-separated URL path segments pointing to an original image in the system. For example, appending /w600/format-webp/ scales width to 600 px preserving aspect ratio and outputs a WebP image (Source: img.php, .htaccess).

What image formats are supported?

Instaimgr supports four raster formats: JPEG, PNG, GIF, and WEBP. Uploads and fetched targets are verified by magic byte signatures. Vector files (such as SVG) are prohibited to prevent script injection (Source: security.php).

What file size and dimension limits apply?

Every upload or fetched image is capped at 10 MB. Maximum resolution is 40 megapixels, and single-side dimension cannot exceed 12,000 pixels. Requests exceeding these boundaries return a clear HTTP 400 error (Source: security.php, img.php).

Is EXIF metadata stripped from outputs?

Yes. All EXIF, IPTC, and XMP metadata profiles are stripped via Imagick::stripImage() from processed images before caching and serving, protecting user privacy and reducing final file size (Source: img.php, index.php).

How are transformed images cached?

Transformed images are written to the server cache/ directory on first request (X-Cache: MISS) and served from disk on subsequent requests (X-Cache: HIT) with Cache-Control: public, max-age=31536000, immutable headers and 30-day retention (Source: img.php, cron_cleanup.php).

Can I use Instaimgr without an account?

Yes. The interactive Image Console on the homepage is open for free image transformations subject to per-IP rate limits (60 transforms/min, 20 fetches/min, 15 uploads/min; Source: security.php). Developer accounts and expanded paid API tiers are currently open for waitlist registration.
